We are proud to announce that MDS have joined the Foundation for Infant Loss as its exclusive Medical Negligence legal panel member for the Bristol and Bath, Nottinghamshire and Leicester regions.

With Baby Loss Awareness Week approaching (9 – 15 October 2026), this partnership feels particularly meaningful.

Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important time to remember the babies who are no longer with us and to recognise the profound and lasting impact that baby loss can have on parents, siblings and wider families.

It is also a time to listen.

For some families, part of that journey involves wanting to understand what happened to their baby and whether their care could have been different. Finding answers can be an important part of processing what has happened, although we recognise that every family's experience and wishes are different.

The Foundation for Infant Loss is dedicated to supporting families affected by baby loss and infertility, while promoting education, awareness and improvements in professional practice. Through its growing national directory and extensive network across healthcare, charities, employers and bereavement services, the Foundation helps families access trusted support at a time when they may feel particularly vulnerable.

Our partnership reflects MDS's specialist experience in maternity, birth injury and fatal medical negligence claims, alongside our commitment to providing sensitive, compassionate and client-centred support.

As part of the partnership, our team will also benefit from specialist training developed by Dr Chantal Fowler Lockey BEM, including education around foetal monitoring, maternity safety, trauma-informed communication and the learning arising from national maternity reviews.

For us, this partnership is about more than legal expertise.  It is about ensuring that families who want to explore their experience have access to appropriate specialist advice, while being treated with compassion, dignity and understanding throughout the process.

Hannah Carr, Legal Director and Senior Medical Negligence Solicitor at MDS Medical Law, said:
"Supporting families after the loss of a baby requires far more than legal expertise. It requires compassion, understanding and a willingness to listen carefully to each family's story.  We are honoured to be partnered with the Foundation for Infant Loss, particularly at this important time of year, to improve access to specialist support, help families find answers where they are seeking them, and contribute to the wider conversation about learning from maternity care and improving outcomes for future parents and babies."
Dr Chantal Fowler Lockey BEM, Founder of the Foundation for Infant Loss, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome MDS as our exclusive legal panel member for the Bristol, Bath, Nottinghamshire, and Leicester regions. Having access to trusted, highly specialised legal advice is vital for families who are seeking answers about their care, and MDS brings both the deep expertise and the profound empathy that this sensitive work demands.
As we approach Baby Loss Awareness Week, this partnership highlights our shared dedication not only to supporting grieving families but also to driving real change in maternity safety. By committing to our specialist training, the team at MDS is actively investing in a deeper understanding of maternity safety and trauma-informed communication.
Together, we are ensuring that families are listened to, their experiences are respected, and that crucial lessons are learned to improve future outcomes"

As Baby Loss Awareness Week approaches, we are reminded that behind every statistic is a baby, a family and a story.

We are proud to stand alongside the Foundation for Infant Loss in supporting families, listening to their experiences, promoting safer maternity care and helping ensure that, where lessons can be learned, those lessons are not lost.
